19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
